Dr Nand holds a PhD in Plant Biotechnology (Australian Natives) and MSc (Hons) from Griffith University and BSc + GCE from the University of the South Pacific (Fiji).

He is an adjunct lecturer at Griffith University and is an ex-principal and school teacher and served as President of Northern Principals’ Association and the secretary of Fiji Principals’ Association (1993-1994).

He runs the annual Queensland Bushfoods Conference (1999-2019) and is currently the treasurer of the Ethnic Schools Association of Queensland (ESAQ) of which he was President from 2001-2007 and has been a member of this voluntary organisation since 1995. He also has an extensive retail business experience in Brisbane since 1996.
